to finish the korean restaurant triangle, i review this last. very good korean style barbeque. newest one in kansas. all the meats are good. eat it like lettuce wraps. rice, green stuff, red sauce, and meat in a lettuce. sometimes the meat is less flavorful than what you'd get at choga, but the atmosphere here is more fun and more of a real barbeque restaurant. wait staff is attentive. be prepared to smell like the place when you leave, though.

I had a great experience here! Kevin waited on us and he was excellent! Very personable and told us that he watched the way we cooked our meat and he really loved the presentation we created. He tries to learn something new from every guest and I can tell he loves his job. The food was delicious and Kevin gave us Chai tea to go! Awesome place and service and we'll be back soon!

Was excited to try this place out... walked in from 95deg weather. And the inside of the restaurant was the same temperature as outside.. maybe even hotter!!! We sat down thinkinf it would be ok... but after 3mins of sitting in 96deg and with people grilling around us, we knea we could not survive and walked... STOP BEING STINGY!!! TURN ON YOUR AC!!! If you dont mind a sauna while eating, go right in!

This place deserves 10 stars!!! One of the most fun, interesting culinary experiences ever. We went with another couple and got the C2 combo which serves 3-4 people. It was the perfect amount of food for everyone and the meat was sooooo good (brisket, short rib, ribeye, and pork belly). Plus the sides are unlimited and you get like 6-7 side dishes (green beans, potato salad, mushrooms, zucchini, seaweed, etc). Our server was great and made the experience a fun one. My friend and I shared a bottle of sake, which was quite interesting. The grill in the middle makes it easy to just grab meat and eat. We will be back and would definitely recommend this to anyone. It's not a place where you can rush and get in and get out. It's an experience so expect to be here for a bit. There were tons of people and getting the grill hot enough to cook on takes a little while. I will totally be back. I'm so surprised we've never been here before, but we will come again!

Our experience was 100% enhanced by our waiter/cook, Johnathan!!!! He was super friendly, attentive and educated us on the different types of food. We got bulgogi and a sampler type meal. Both were delicious! We will definitely be back!!

Chosun is the first Korean BBQ place I've visited, and it was delicious. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was so much fun, and each time he visited the table he offered us tips on what to pair with a specific meat or had a witty comment. I highly recommend this place with the caveat that this is an experience that is meant to be enjoyed and savored. We wanted to try a little of everything, and got one of the larger combination plates. Our party was probably there around two hours, but it certainly didn't feel like it. As soon as we had finished one course, the waiter was right there putting another on the grill. Service was excellent, food was excellent, and the owner came over to talk to us after the meal and shared some personal stories with us about his time in the restaurant business. It was a great evening, and I can't wait to go back again.

Went with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Prices were reasonable. We initially thought the portions were large but we ended up eating most everything because it was so tasty. We're new to the KC area and want to check out the other Korean restaurants in overland Park.

Chosun is a great view into Korean cuisine. The extra kick is that it comes with polite and smiling service -- something not always seen at Korean restaurants when you aren't Korean (understandable). They're using prime-grade beef and the marinades (if ordered) are completely unique tastes. The sides are rotated to change daily, and the kim-chi was some of the best I've had. My wife and I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap, and the BBQ for 2. It was waaaaayyyyy too much, however, it was so good and there were so many flavors to mix, that we sat for hours and finished it all. The owner/manager/head waiter, Kevin, is a great guy with a genuine desire for his customers to enjoy their experience and get rid of their fear for ethnically diverse cuisine. I'm an easy customer as I grew up in Asia (Hong Kong) and basically have a weird fetish for any Asian food. We enjoyed our conversations with Kevin who has a number of loyal and regular customers, and he seems to always have a treat for all of them in one form or another (Thai teas, Vietnamese coffees, zucchini pancakes, etc). Now, he may not comp everybody, but he will offer a handshake and can also guarantee quality service and food. They'll even cook your BBQ meat on the hot plate if you wish. The experience isn't the cheapest (definitely a $$), but the quality, service, atmosphere/ambience, and staff, in my humble opinion, justify the price. Let's be honest, suburban KC shouldn't be a place to learn about Korean cuisine and culinary technique. Well done, Kevin. Five stars to you and your guys.

Chosun!! This place was an experience, a great one!! Kevin waited on us. He was great and it's obvious he enjoys his job. I told him I heard about him on yelp and he brought my boyfriend and I two Thai teas (try saying that three times fast) on the house!! Sweet spicy goodness. Got the combo #4. Fed two perfectly, as described, and you get a full tummy. The brisket and pork belly were a little bland but nothing some soybean paste couldn't fix- and it actually brought out the flavors! The marinated beef and pork were wonderful. Only reason I give four stars are the sides, which seemed kinda lacking. I will return to try the hot stone pot entrees!

Moving from Chicago, I miss having easy access to delicious and authentic Korean food. After a few weeks of probing, I finally got wind from this a friend and decided to give this place go in the earliest free time available! Boy am I glad to discover this gem! The restaurant shares plenty of parking spaces with other stores in a plaza. It is a little bit out of the way for me but it was well worth the drive! Walking through the doors, I find myself surrounded by mostly Asian people. You know you are in the right Asian restaurant when the current customers are mostly Asian. Lucky for us, we brought a a Korean friend, so they could converse and bring out the authentic things! (But later I came with a few other non-Korean friends and the English menu still provided very good options) We ordered the combination I & II Korean BBQ options. It was only a brief moment before the waiter brought out plates of diamond-like meat slices, ready to be BBQed. Back in Asia, we are used to doing the cooking process by ourselves, so I was surprised that the water offered to do the cooking. Being as curious as I Was, of course I let him take the wheel~ Everything that the waiter cooked for us was done right. You can tell that he has done this for quite some time now. He would put the meat on our grill and move on to the next table to assist other customers. But he would return just on time to flip the meat and still manged to cook it perfectly. Not once, not twice, not three times, but ALL THE TIMES. Based on my observation, he must have assisted 5 tables simultaneously! Saying that this is an impressive feat is a gross understatement. In addition to delicious food, they also got a good selection of Korean alcoholic beverages on top of your usual local beverages of choice. Definitely a nice addition to an already fantastic meal. Definitely deserve multiple revisits in the future!

So... I'm pretty sure this place closed down since I arrived at lunch time on a Monday and the doors were locked, the windows tinted and signs are gone.

It was just ok. A little over priced. The chicken bulgogi was un-marinated, no taste, dont get that. The pork bulgogi was good, but I had better. Everything I got was just so so there.

Food alone would make this a great restaurant, but the venue dragged down the experience. The venue... the interior is a decent size which can accommodate large and small parties alike. The one problem I experienced was the lack of heating in the middle of winter. Everyone in the restaurant was still wearing their coats at their tables. Even with it being Korean BBQ with grills at every table, it was still too cold to remove my jacket. I'm not sure if management was trying to save some money on a weekday, but at the expense of your customers... just doesn't seem right. The food... great Korean BBQ. As a group we tried both meat and vegetarian dishes (for the vegetarians in the group). We had a vegetarian pancake (I prefer the seafood still), had the palace bulgogi, the un-marinated kalbi, and the shitake mushrooms. Overall... I'll give this place another shot, but I may wait for some warmer weather!

My family went there for a birthday celebration and it was amazing! The staff helped us cook our meat and explained everything that was served. There was NO issue with the restaurant being too hot, the temperature was very comfortable. The food was as good as the Korean food I had while I lived in Boston (I basically lived in little Korea, there were like 15 Korean BBQ restaurants within a mile of my house). We look forward to going there again!

First, I must say that I don't know a damn thing about Korean food, BUT I do know when something is tasty, when service is good, and when I am charmed by a place. Our friends picked this place because they wanted the cook at your table Korean bbq experience. I was a skeptic. I've never understood why you'd pay money to cook your own food at a restaurant---can't I do that at home---but I guess at least they do the dishes! Other initial impressions were, "dang this is kind of spendy for what it is" and "man they don't have a lot of beer choices." I don't get to say this very much ;), but I guess I was wrong! (or at least wrong on everything but the beer selection which is limited--Don't get the Hite. It's pretty lame tasting) The prices are kind of expensive, BUT you get a lot for the price. We opted for a meat combo (C2). It was $80, but split 4 ways it was completely affordable. It came with essentially unlimited sides and a large salad. The menu said it would feed 3-4, but I bet you could feed 5 on it. We gorged. The meat was all very good, but we especially loved the pork shoulder and the bulgogi. The whole cook it yourself (or with some staff assistance) was actually fun. It helped elongate the meal, as we spent a good 2+ hours there. The service was fabulous. Kevin was very courteous, helpful, and charming. He was a delight. He wasn't always there to turn our meat at the 2 minute intervals, but we were completely fine with that. The only small negatives were that the restroom wasn't as clean as the rest of the place, and it was cold in there (which was likely in an effort to keep the restaurant cool despite all the running cooktops). Other than that, I don't have a thing to complain about. It was delicious and fun! GO HERE.

Slow Slow Slow SLOW SERVICE. This locaiton is better off in a part of town where 1/2 of the Johnson County work population is not in a rush trying to get their food in reasonable time. It's one thing if this place were packed, but it's EMPTY. And it's like this ALL THE TIME. The stupid looks and slow response by servers is also not aprpeciated. I mean there's just no sense of urgency here. I'm sick of giving this palce chances. The food IS GOOD, but the service here just makes you want to scream. Speed up your service. Tell your servers to act kind. And check on your customers for a change. Unless I need a to-go order, I don't plan on returning.

I give the 3 star because comparing with Choga.I really like Choga more. Taste : Choga better Price : Chogun higher Environment:Chogun better Well actually the environment is not big different.they both good service. But personally prefer the flavor in Choga.

Went there for lunch with co-workers. Most of us never had Korean BBQ. We took Kevin's recommendation and ordered 2 appetizers and combo #1. Our experience was unbelievable. I think we'll be talking about it or awhile. Amazing service and food! Kevin Wong went above and beyond. The quality of the meat was INSANE. Delicious! Highly recommend that you check out this gem!

It has been a while since we dined at Chosun. The restaurant looked somewhat different this time. Perhaps a new owner? Both the food and service were great. The last time my husband ordered mulnengmun it did not have any meat and had small amount of noodles. This time it had beef, boiled egg, pickled ginger and a good amount of noodles in a very flavorful broth. We also ordered spicy sautéed squid and dukbokki. The squid had smokey taste and was delicious. The Dukbokki was yummy. Side dishes were okay.

Very clean, the ambiance is quiet and causal. The staff are friendly and servers are quick to refill drinks. My sister and I always do the Korean BBQ, although take note that your hands and yourself will smell later. I highly recommend the samgyapsal, bulgogi, and seasoned kalbi.

My most recent visit was on a Monday night. There were about 16 of us and there were maybe two other tables that had two people each so this place was pretty much empty. We ordered a few combinations (I think it was a couple #40 and $41) to share and the prices were still the same as it was since last year when I was here. It took so long for the food to come out. In addition, the free appetizers came out so slow that some of our group finished their set of appetizers before the next group got their first round. We asked for rice and must have asked a few times before any rice came out. The same went for the appetizers when we wanted more. We kept asking for some more before they brought some out. The food still tasted like it did the last time I was here which was good in my opinion. The service was extremely slow and I would say slower than the last time I was here. Seriously, the restaurant was pretty much empty so I don't what the hold up was. When we wanted to pay, we couldn't use the birthday card (it was one of the guy's birthday) that was at the front entrance's wall. If they don't accept those then they should remove them from display or at least honor them until the cards run out. Our waiter said there were new owners that took over two months ago. If the new owners were to improve the service here then this place would be a lot more busy than it was. When we went to pay for our food, it took almost one hour for the bill to be brought out let alone having all of the credit cards swiped and returned. At that point, we were the only ones left in the restaurant so I seriously don't know what took so long to give us the bill. I won't be coming back.

Four of us shared the $79 meal listed as being for 3 to 4 people, and it was such a delightful and delicious dining experience. While one or two more people could haven eaten with us and we would have all gotten our fill, I'm glad it was just us because everything was so delicious that I wanted to eat it all!! Warning! This place is not for people looking for a quick bite! We were there for about 2.5 hours because of the process that goes along with it! Your meal is cooked at your table, one to two proteins at a time. The side dishes that come with the meal are all very good and unlimited. The wait staff was awesome, and one of my friends that lived in China for several years said that she had never seen another Korean BBQ stateside that was so authentic, as they are very popular in China. Go with people that you enjoy being with, drink some sake, plan to stay a while.

Wow! They really did this place up! New renovations and menu make it a class higher dining experience. I was relieved that they still have my lunch specials and can't wait to come back for dinner. I was disappointed to find they don't offer the same sides as they did in the past. That said, this place is still amazing!

We visited Chosun for the first time tonight and were very pleased. My husband and I had been in Seoul last January and decided to see how Missouri Korean BBQ compared. The food seemed very similar in preparation and taste to the places we ate in Seoul that Korean friends took us to. We ordered the beef bulgogi and the short ribs, both of which we enjoyed very much in Korea. Both were excellent, and cooking at the grill on the table is so much fun. I did try all the sides even though I am not a huge kimchi fan. Everything seemed good even if I didn't care for some things myself. The place was very clean, the service was very friendly and attentive, and we had a great meal. If you have not done Korean BBQ, it would be a fun couples date. I would eat here again.

I've been here a few times and although I loved their foods I absolutely hated the customer service. I always had to flag down the waiters/waitresses for water, napkin, extra rice, etc. The staffs were never attentive and the service was always slow.

I was pleasantly surprised. Loved the kimchi pancake, great flavor. We also had the combo. The pork shoulder was my favorite. Server was really nice and paid special attention to my squirmy two year old. I also had their soju Moscow mule. Very refreshing. I would definitely go back.

I am sorry to inform this place does not serve authentic Korean food. Maybe this is just personal preference, please do not ask me if this is my first time eating Korean food. I think that question is extremely insulting. They already started my visit on a bad note. I usually review a restaurant after a couple visits. However, I extremely disliked this place and only been here once. My husband and I came here on a Friday night. We told the server we want the Korean BBQ table. This is a style of raw meat cooking at the dinning table. The waiting staff questioned our request? Which is annoying cause you make more money. Review on food: -Kalbi (grilled at table): the meat is not fully marinated, taste just like grilled meat with soy sauce. -Korean pancake: crispy but overly oily. -Kimchi soup: the soup is super greasey with too much pork belly. Not enough stinky kimchi but more fresh cabbage. -banchan: super cheap items that are not korean at all. Review on service: -I wouldn't say it is bad but just odd. The waitress talked too much about herself and sometimes you just have to leave us alone to eat. Overall experience: -weird service, not authentic food, bad tasting food, and unwelcome feeling. I will not come back again.

There are very few places I have eaten Korean food and this is the only place in which I haven't worked. Needless to say, my experience was great. The atmosphere was very relaxing, people were laughing and generally having a good time. The Bibim Bap that I ordered tasted just like home. The vegetables were crisp and the meat was well marinated. The kimchi, alongside five other side dishes, was a little on the soggy side but nevertheless, it was delicious but had a kick. I could breathe out of my nose after dinner. A server told me that they recently came under new management and that they had been around for eight years. The way he spoke about things, new management really made this place great. I'm glad I stumbled upon this place when I did. I would recommend this place to any of my friends and family. 5/5 with rice

Super delish food! Me and my co worker got the combo #4 and they "refill" your side dish on the house. The meat are really flavorful. The pork shoulder was awesome. Their are variety of side dishes that comes in the combo that compliments the flavor of the meat and food in general.

I've been here once before a while back and didn't think much of it, probably because I didn't know what to order and the menu isn't the easiest thing to figure out in English. So this time I went back, randomly, and had the spicy squid, bibimbab (no idea how to say this and it sounds like the sounds of a video game in my head), and the thinly sliced pork belly. YUM, everything was so good! I mean we finished it all! Service was nice, he explained anything we didn't understand and made some recommendations, it was slow, the restaurant was slow but it appears to only have been 2 people working there. But other than being a little low they were nice. I want to go back and try the grill, I had my little toddlers w/ me, ain't nobody grill at my table!

Tried bbq. It's not impressive. The flavor is okay. They will cook the meat for you instead of self serving like it supposed to. Overpriced.

Walk in to Chosun any weekend and it is busy. That tells you something. The barbecue is where it is at! The dishes are better at other places in my opinion but no one can beat the korean barbecue. No minimum order to use the grill which is nice compared to the other place. Service is decent although they do seem a little understaffed at times. Banchan is okay...but people don't go to restaurants for the side dishes. Overall solid choice if you're looking for Korean food.

Me and my wife are both Korean and I just returned from a one year tour in Korea. So knowing what the real thing tastes/looks like, this place has nailed it. The food was amazing. Im speaking only on the BBQ portion (we didnt order anything else). Very authentic. Definitely ask to be seated at a table with the grill in the middle. You might have to wait a little longer, but trust me it's worth it. The price was a little higher than I expected, hence the 4 star instead of 5.

Phoned in a carryout order as we have a little one at home and sometimes its just easier to eat in. My wife's favorite soup is Dduk Baegi Bulgogi which not all korea restaurants carry. when I called on the phone I asked if they had this. The person on the phone said, "uhhhh" At that point I could tell he was flipping through the menu looking for what I had said. I had to say it a few more times, but the other person on the other end of the line just sounded bewildered. I also tried to order Ddok Bokki and got the same response. I thought whatever if you don't have it that's ok and continued on with my order. When I got to the restaurant to pick up our food I happened to glance through the menu and saw that Ddok Bokki was listed in the menu. WTH??? Dduk Baegi Bulgogi was not however. There were two gentlemen there and my father told them about my wife's favorite soup and they just kind of stared at each other. My thought was why don't you go ask the chef to see if they know how to make it. Instead just more awkard stares. Call me crazy, but I think I'll order my Korean from somewhere else in town next time. Want the best Korean? Find the place in town with the Ajumma or Ajushi running the joint who is bossing everyone around. THATS where I want to eat. We had four adults eating and ordered: The Kimchi Jan, Bulgogi, Dolsot Bbimbap, and the Kimchi Jiggae. This was my fathers second time eating Korean and my mother's first so we wanted to have a wide variety of foods for them to try. As someone who lived in Korea for three years I can say the food was so so. The banchan was decent and the Kimchi Jiggae was just alright.

We've never tried Korean food before, so we were pretty excited! When we first walked in, it was a little awkward. We didn't know whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be shown to a table. There is really only a bar and tables and an empty bench near the entrance. Finally someone came up to us and showed us to a table. The have really cool BBQ tables with grills built into them, as well as regular tables. I don't think the servers realize that there are many people who come here that have never tried Korean before. There wasn't much explanation of what was what, so we had a lot of questions. We ordered the seafood noodle dish. Very tasty! My only comment would be that there were some shrimp that weren't de-veined and some of the seafood was cooked a little tough. Very friendly service!

I am a Korean food veteran, so to say. I must say, this place is the best Korean food in the KC metro. I've been several times now and have had service that felt like I was family. The Bulgogi was the best quality I've had in many years. The boneless short ribs were melting in my mouth. Both times, Kevin has been my host/server. He knows the menu, recommends well, tailors the side dishes to go with the main course, and is a great conversationalist without being intrusive. I can firmly say: Chosun is my Korean place in Kansas City!!!!

I have been a Korean food junkie since i was nine. Since moving to the area, had a hard time finding one that met my standards. Was stuck cooking korean food at home for a few years. Then one day, my husband told me he had heard about this place. It was a little far south, but figured why not. Couldnt be worse than that other place on Metcalf. I just need to say, this place is amazing. I love the grill at the table, and the decor. We ordered a combination BBQ meal so we would have left overs. So much meat and variety, but it was soooo worth it. Even the Gun Mandu apetizer we had were amazing and just like home made. The zuchinni pancake was also good, but wish they had a scallion one that day. The meat was fresh and those that were marinated were good. My only thing was that the Bulgolgi that came with our combo didnt seem to have been marinated enough. It had that bulgolgi flavor that i love, but it was not strong enough as if it didnt marinate long enough. The pork shoulder was delicious and oddly, my favorite of the meats. We were given Four banchan which were good. They had a potato salad one that i really enjoyed. ONly one kind of kimchee though and no cucumber kimchee but the kimchee we did get was so good, my husband ate two bowls of it. Also, they did not have the sprout banchan that night or the scallion banchan which are pretty standard with Korean bbq....something i find odd. Anyway, if you are craving a good korean bbq, this place will satisfy. A little pricy btw.

went here hoping for great korean food, and was disappointed in everything. we ordered 4 dishes - all of them were bland, tasteless and one of them actually had a small meat bone in it that would have been a serious problem if my husband hadn't seen it before he swallowed it. we showed this to the waiter and he said, "oh, sorry." really? this is not acceptable. the prices are so high for what you get. we'll never, ever go back to this place. the service was lackluster at best. for three people to pay $85 to eat bad food with bad service in Overland Park is absurd.

Our first experience at Chosun and it was a great one!! The food was fabulous and service was top notch. We started with the kimchi pancake and of course soju!! Beef Bulgogi was a no brainer, and it didn't disappoint. We will be back.

I invited some of my close friends and the evening turned out really well, Carrie the owner and Kevin the manager did an outstanding job attending to my group of 18. The food was excellent. It was also a busy evening but the service was excellent. I highly recommend this place and will definitely go again. The best Korean restaurant in Kansas.

I recently moved to KC and have been looking for a great Korean restaurant for when my family comes to visit. We will definitely be visiting Chosun. At first glance it seemed a bit pricey bit it was well worth it! The food was very well prepared and the portions were HUGE! I got the bulgogi for $19.99 and my date got bibimbap which was $12.99. Both were awesome and the service was impeccable. Our awesome server got into a very deep conversation with another table halfway through our meal and another server began attending us without missing a beat. Well done!

Ever since they remodeled the restaurant, they raised the price on a few items (I.e. Their most popular dish-marinated Galbi) by almost $10! I came there a week ago and their marinated Galbi aren't as marinated. Seemed as if they changed their chef. Not worth the money to come back.

great service and great food! we used the grill and ordered combo that feeds 2-3. it will for sure feed 3. it was just 2 of us and we had a lot of food leftover. missing one star because the sauce was lacking a bit.

I was introduced to Korean food while traveling for business in Asia. I found several dishes that I really liked and now I search them out here in the US. At Chosun, I always start with spicy pork bbq to share with the table as an appetizer. The waitress will bring lettuce leafs on request and use them to make a wrap with spicy pork, kimchi and pepper paste. I've brought dozens of people who had never had Korean cuisine to Chosun and they all love the spicy pork lettuce wraps... I follow up the bbq with bibimbap, I like the bibimbap dolset at Chosun. Basically, a rice dish with spicy beef served in a hot stone bowl that keeps everything hot. Throw in some kimchi radishes and cucumbers and toss with the red pepper paste. Good stuff! Chosun is definitely my favorite place for Korean in KC.

I had a nice beef bulgogi lunch special here. They bring you a tray containing five sections. A generous serving a beef with a sweet kick to it. Steamed rice. Excellent kimchi. A salad that was only so-so. And some kind of cold tofu noodle concoction that was delicious.

Food: so so, not the best Korean food here in the US. Some dishes are too salty. Price: I think it's a little over priced, but not that bad for a Korean restaurant. We usually spend $45ish for 2 Service: this is the reason I am giving only 1 star. Rude servers. They will be nice to your face at first, until you ask for a refill of a side dish or have any other requests. In addition, the first thing they do after you leave is to check how much tip you leave them. I've seen the servers complaining about tables the second they walk out the door. Environment: your clothes will smell after you eat there. Conclusion: will not go back.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I have NEVER had such horrible service in my life. I am in the food industry myself, so for me to give a 0 star rating, the service must be bad...and it was HORRIBLE. When we first got there, the doors were locked, even though it said their hours of operation were from 1130am-9pm. It was 2:00pm when we arrived (in retrospect I should have taken this as a sign to eschew the place all together). So I had to call them to tell them to unlock their doors so we could get inside. Then we sit down and the table is dirty so one of the employees said they would clean it for us. I asked for a highchair as well, since i am holding my 7 month old baby; 10 minutes later, I am still holding my child and the table is dirty. Finally they clean it and bring me a highchair after roughly 15 minutes of waiting. We order and my boyfriend's food comes out and I am stuck waiting for mine. After another 10 minute wait, I ask the waiter where my food is and he tells me they didn't have what I initially ordered, so they are making me another dish. EXCUSE ME?!?! Why wasn't i informed of this in the first place?? Why didn't you come and tell me this after my boyfriend's food arrived so I wasn't stuck waiting and wondering?? I told them I didn't even want the dish after waiting forever and not being informed of anything. So I basically got to sit and watch him eat. Fun. Never once did the waiter come and check on us to see if my boyfriend's food was okay, never once did he offer me something complimentary instead...NOTHING! This was the WORST PLACE EVER! Horrible customer service and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place.

This is my most favorite Korean restaurant so far. I think I have been in this restaurant more than ten times and I always ended up ordering the marinated beef (I think the second list on the Korean BBQ section on the menu). I have never eaten any Korean BBQ that is as good as this menu. The side dishes are very good and have a lot of variety. You may try cold Korean noodle soup and Bibimbup too. The service is really good. The price of the Korean BBQ is pretty high. Before going to this place, don't forget to go to their website and print the discount from there. The food is so delicious that more than half of the time I forgot to use this coupon even though I had printed it. :(

having gone to all the other Korean places, this one, just a little out of the way, seems to be one that I don't frequent as much as the others. I'm not sure if it's their 9 dollar lunch specials, or if it was the time it took them 1/2 an hour to get my to go lunch ready, but something about this place just doesn't sit right with me. I can't say that I've ever had any bad food here. In fact today my soybean paste soup tasted delicious as did the little appetizer bowls that came with it. but what would be 9 bucks at Cho Ga was 13 here. I'm not sure why it's so expesive, there's really nothing in the soup except for a little cut up zuccini, some onions and some grisly ass pieces of meat. It's maybe an 8 dollar soup, but 13 bucks, meh. I'm sure I'll come back to this place when the hankering hits me, but for now, I'll stick with Rainbow who's still got the 7 dollar lunch specials and cho ga for their 9 dollar soybean paste soup. The place is always empty for lunch, so I'm not even really sure how much longer they can survive. I don't wish them ill, but I can see the signs.

Im a culinarian and enjoy seeking out fantastic foods. I enjoy ethnic cuisine but upon entering Chosun, I thought i'll give it a try. Inside was ok but after sitting down and looking up at the rotten, greasy hoods above the grill, lets just say nasty and dirty. The watresses were ok but watching them bring out "RAW" food and sitting it on another table somebody was going to be eating off of well that is a health code issue... The short ribs were really lean and hard to eat... Short ribs usually need to be braised or smoked/cooked for long periods and not just 10 minutes. Pork was ok. Overall It's not worth the money. Im just glad I drank a shot of tequila after so I wouldn't get sick! FYI best bet if you come here...just keep driving :)

I got the Kalbi. It was reeaaaally sweet (not optimal). Beef quality was okay and banchan were good. They gave quite a nice amount of banchan in my to-go package and even included lettuce and chili paste. That was a nice touch. The gaktoogi (spicy fermented daikon chunks... I don't know how else to describe it) was really good! It tasted like Grandma's! Maybe their other stuff is better. I might try again.

I don't know much about Korean Food. And frankly, after eating this, I still don't know much. We had a variety of Kim Chee which was good. We had some beef dumplings which were ok. We had a beef soup thing which was ok. They don't have a menu on their webpage so I cannot say what we had exactly. I don't know that I would go back based on my experience... We'll see.

I haven't had a lot of Korean food before but I really like this place. Depending on where you sit here they will cook the food at your table or just bring you the cooked dishes. I felt like dishes upon dishes came with some things I recognized like kim chee and others that I did not. I thought it made for a fun evening and was kind of exciting to be able to try so many things. I loved the marinated beef and it even made good leftovers the next day. They use so many seasonings and is so juicy that you know this was marinated for awhile. My friend that is Korean told me that this is her go to place in the area. I can see why.

This was my first experience with Korean food, and it was a good one. We had a group of four and went for a later dinner. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we were able to be seated at a grill table. We ended up ordering the BBQ marinated beef & pork combo. It was pretty cool to have to food grilled in front of you, the server did the first few batches for us before we felt comfortable taking the reigns. There was an ample amount of food within the side dishes that came out for everyone to get enough. I'm not sure the exact names but it included egg soup, and a variety of carrots, bean sprouts and cabbage. Being a noob at this sort of cuisine I am sure I didn't eat it properly, but was fine with mixing a 'scrambler' of all these options along with the BBQ meat in my rice bowl for what turned out to be a great meal. Also do not fear the oddly colored water. It is that way on purpose.

I really enjoyed this place! We got a grill table which I was happy about as I think it's part of the experience for a first timer. Service was fast, informative and friendly. We were starving (hadn't eaten lunch) so we ordered the pork belly, beef short rib and bulgogi for the two of us to split. There was tons of food. All of the meats were incredible, but we both especially loved the short rib. Pork belly is always tasty no matter what, but I think the marinade on the short rib made that one our favorite. The bulgogi was super flavorful and fantastic in a lettuce wrap. The sides were really tasty too - I liked the tofu, the steamed egg and the kimchi. Love that sesame oil dipping sauce that comes for the meat, too. I can't wait to go back and try the marinated pork! Mmm, I want Korean BBQ now!

Food was awesome but service was terrible. The waiter, though very nice, ordered our food 15 minutes after taking our drink order but we didn't see any drinks for 20 minutes or so. The food came out in waves with 10-15 minute increments so we didn't get to eat together. We never got a drink refill and it took another 30 minutes to get our tickets to pay. A typical hour long meal took us 2 hours.

I really like Chosun. It's not the BEST Korean BBQ I've ever had, but it's the best I've had in Kansas City. Their kim chi is good, and it (thankfully) doesn't all taste the same. I just wish they had the sweet potatoes more often :-( We always do the BBQ. Their pork is fantastic, and the prices are very reasonable.

Love this place! I had the kalbi, & it was awesome! The little dishes of pickled assorted veggies were sooo delish! There was this dish of fish cake that was awesome! There was also this dish of fried egg battered tofu with a little bit of chilli sauce that was soooo good! The waiters cook the kalbi for you, & all you have to do is watch. The kalbi came with salad, mushrooms & onions (for the grill) & the usual pickled veggies. For around $20, a great amount of food. Worth every penny! This place reminds me of this great Korean BBQ place in San Francisco that my sister took me.

I love this place. They have the best lunch prices. I'm a jjigeh (soup) girl and my kid likes meat. I'm mean, so instead of going the BBQ route (more cost effective, larger portions), we each get our own entrees. Maybe I have simple tastes, but I just love their soondooboo. For newbs, that's a spicy stew with really soft tofu in it. It's not like big city soondooboo places where you can pick from 85 kinds of SDB. It's either seafood or standard beef. I only get the beef. The fatty pieces of meat in it are freaking fantastic. I have tried their ooguhjee kalbi tang, but I like Choga's better. Same with the ohjingoh bokkum. I am not a huge BBQ person, so I rarely order meat, but I have had their bulgogi jungol and it was just okay. I don't fault Chosun for this. I'm just not a big fan. The portion was huge, however, and my friend was eager to take the leftovers home. My kid generally gets either the regular bulgogi, which he loves, or the jaeyuk bokkum. They're both good and he doesn't have a favorite between Chosun and Choga. The banchan (side dishes) here are just average, but I do agree with other reviews that the regular kimchee here is better (Choga has the better ggakdugi - radish kimchee). If you're into sauteed o-deng (fish cake), theirs is a really yummy version. Also, with most dinner entrees, you get a steamed egg banchan (in a stone pot) that none of the other KC Korean restaurants serve. Big plus. One thing I will say about this place is that the service is sometimes EXTREMELY slow. Lunch can take 1.5 hours. The servers are not very attentive, but they're friendly. If you're unfamilar with Korean food, read my reveiw for Choga. I explain a few things there. I have less to say here because I love their soondooboo here so much, I rarely feel like trying another dish. I admit that the stuff I have tried has been inferior to Choga, but again, I am only talking about their soups. I haven't tried much of their BBQ. In summary, I think this place is great. Over the last year, I have been here more than double the times I've been to Choga. The lunch prices just can't be beat. Plus, I get rewards for using credit/debit cards here!

I was mentored so to speak in Korean food when I was working in Ft. Lee and Englewood Cliffs, NJ, by a Korean and some Japanese. In that area there were several Korean restaurants since some Korean companies had facilities there. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised that there were even Korean restaurants in this area. In the 1990's a restaurant So Kong Dong was opened in Ft. Lee that only served soon tofu (soondubu or soon dooboo), and this restaurant immediately was mobbed by customers. Whenever I eat at Chosun, which is at lunch, I order their soon tofu vegetarian style. Not being Korean I believe they automatically spice it mild. The soon tofu is quite good - not as good as So Kong Dong - but I am thankful for small gifts. The meals always come with the banchan, usually five different good sized appetizers, and rice. My wife usually takes some box lunch or the bibimbap. The service can vary, but we have never had an extraordinary wait. If a large group comes in or for some reason the restaurant fills, then it stresses the wait staff. On the average over the lunch hour there will not be a long wait for service. The restaurant itself is neither a hole-in-the-wall or a high decor place in Leawood. If you like Korean food, and if you cannot fly to the east or west coast when you crave it, then Chosun is a good choice.

I love Korean food. The only problem with that is unless you know how to eat Korean food you are pretty much lost on how to eat things. This was a great experience. Decided to take Sam out for our Christmas dinner here. We had a combo for two and Kimchi Soup. The meat was great...the side dishes that normally come with Korean food were fresh and she was very nice in explaining what each sdish was without us having to ask. We knew what most of the stiff was but there were a few that we weren't sure off. It waswn't that busy but when we came in 3 other familiues did so it was busienss for them ALL AT ONCE. Only one waitress was one today becuase it was Xmas...she did a fabulous job. We will definately go back there and we are taking friends!!

It's hard to pick between this place and Choga because I've been going to Choga longer but I must say...the homemade kimchee is way better and so is the actual BBQ. I also like the atmosphere better, it's so Korean!

I've been in KC since June, and I could have sworn that there were no Korean restaurants near. I just accepted the fact that I would be deprived of such deliciousness. However, I thought that I was futilely googling for Korean BBQ in the KC area for the millionth time because I was desperate. And, I was stunned to see that there were a couple restaurants! My friend and I went on a weekend. I was a bit under the weather for about a week prior, so my taste buds may not have been working up to par. We sat at a table with a grill. We ordered the kalbi (an ABSOLUTE MUST each and every Korean BBQ experience) and some sort of marinated pork. There were a few side dishes, of course kimchi was one of them, but there were not nearly as many as most other Korean restaurants give. The meat was good, but nothing spectacular. And I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed that they did not have chapchae. How can they call themselves a Korean restaurant and not have chapchae?! Anyways, the service was decent, and I will have no problem going back if I do not find a better place. I'm glad that I am not going to have to go through Korean food withdrawal (sigh of relief).

Prior to coming to Overland Park, KS, we heard the thing to eat was Kansas BBQ. We yelped for BBQ, and found Korean BBQ instead so we decided to give this a try. We ordered the tofu soup, kal bi, and kimchee pancake. On the tofu soup, their tofu is so soft and smooth! My coworker and I had just eaten BDC tofu in LA, CA, so we have pretty high expectations for tofu soup, but their tofu was delicious! I thought the soup base was mediocre in that there was not enough flavoring. Also, they didn't have many choices to select from. You can grill your own meats, but we wanted the kitchen to grill the kalbi for us. And I'm glad they did! The meat was a bit fatty, but juicy, sweet, and tender. The kimchee pancake was delicious! It was a bit dough-y, but definitely flavorful. We were so full from the tofu soup and kalbi that we took this home and ate the next morning. By that time, it was still good! And the best part..... at the end of the meal, they gave us rice punch! Sweet with a hint of ginger and chilled. Very refreshing end to our very filling dinner. We were quite satisfied with decor, atmosphere, and service. They even have wooden musical instruments for plucking. Service was pretty good except they forgot to check in with us when we were ready for the bill. We were sitting behind tall chairs and were the last patrons in the restaurant. I'm definitely coming here again the next time I'm back in Kansas.

Generous at 2 stars. Mediocre at best. We asked for a grill table - one with the grill in the center of the table. We consulted with the waiter on which items were best suited for the grill. And then they proceeded to grill it for us on a table next to ours! Minimal side dishes provided with the meal. I've eaten at a number of Korean BBQ places in LA and vicinity, and they are far superior to this place and provide a wide variety of pickles and side dishes, and let us do the grilling. Halfway through the meal they gave us lettuce leaves, which should have been provided at the beginning, and they were sopping wet. The ceiling fans are situated below the lights, producing a strobe effect that was instantly nauseating while trying to read the menu. Once finished, we waited and waited on the bill, no dessert offered. Go elsewhere first.

One to watch! Located in a plaza next to St. Luke's Hospital, this barbecue grill has a traditional Korean grill house atmosphere. Went here for lunch with hubby and had the tofu soup - hot, spicy, and perfect. Need to come back to try the barbecue experience - grilled meats at your table and a full array of side dishes. Yes, please! Updated 6/4/08: Been back twice for the Korean BBQ and it was awesome. Just love, love, love it. If you're new to Korean food, I recommend going with one of the combos - I usually get the Kalbi Beef and Pork combo. I used to be a regular here when I worked in OP. As far as Korean food goes, this place is probably near the top of the list. So why 2 stars?? One of the biggest draws to this establishment is their lunch prices, especially the kalbi bento box for $7.99, it's their most popular item, and there lies the rub. The last several times when I have tried to order the kalbi lunch both for takeout and dine-in, I have been rebuffed with the notion that they are out of the kalbi, even though I was their first customer of the day! Say what?? That's like saying the ice cream shop ran out of ice cream or Jack Stack ran out of brisket before they even open. What's infuriating is that they tell you that the dinner portion of the kalbi IS available?! I have a sneaky suspicion that the reason they have adopted this ploy is because they are either not making money or is losing money on this lunch item and they have effectively removed it from their offerings without removing it from their menu. Great! I guess they've never heard of raising prices or reducing portion size. Do yourself a favor. If you want kalbi for lunch in OP, head over to Choga. Sure their portions are smaller and they charge more, but at least you won't get stiffed out of your kalbi fix.

Tried bbq. It's not impressive. The flavor is okay. They will cook the meat for you instead of self serving like it supposed to. Overpriced.

Wow! They really did this place up! New renovations and menu make it a class higher dining experience. I was relieved that they still have my lunch specials and can't wait to come back for dinner. I was disappointed to find they don't offer the same sides as they did in the past. That said, this place is still amazing!

Super delish food! Me and my co worker got the combo #4 and they "refill" your side dish on the house. The meat are really flavorful. The pork shoulder was awesome. Their are variety of side dishes that comes in the combo that compliments the flavor of the meat and food in general.

great service and great food! we used the grill and ordered combo that feeds 2-3. it will for sure feed 3. it was just 2 of us and we had a lot of food leftover. missing one star because the sauce was lacking a bit.

This place reminds me of this great Korean BBQ place in San Francisco that my sister took me.

to finish the korean restaurant triangle, i review this last. very good korean style barbeque. newest one in kansas. all the meats are good. eat it like lettuce wraps. rice, green stuff, red sauce, and meat in a lettuce. sometimes the meat is less flavorful than what you'd get at choga, but the atmosphere here is more fun and more of a real barbeque restaurant. wait staff is attentive. be prepared to smell like the place when you leave, though.
